Vikrant,

Humor can be a great way to point out what's messed up in this world. One of the aims of this column is to highlight wtf news stories from Indian politics, society, arts and is another medium through which readers can get informed on happenings in India. Obviously, this article does not paint a complete picture of what's happening in India and it's not trying to. The column was inspired by watching stand-up routines (and The Daily Show, of course) and the main goal is to make people laugh.

Since a lot of us are away from India, it is hard for us to follow or keep up with news relating to India. Especially the nitty-gritty stuff that wouldn't feature on the homepage of BBC-South Asia etc.

This article series does a great job in keeping us astride with that kind of stuff while at the same time making us appreciate the element of ridiculous that is inherent in Indian News stories.

It's like an equivalent to getting all your US news from The Daily Show or The Colbert Report on Comedy Central.

I understand this article to be rather cynical. But I don't get the point? What are you emphasizing or trying to state? I agree it is funny to read about some of the fools or foolish mistakes made by the people you mentioned above but humor, singularly, does not justify the piece. Please give me some direction on this one.

Apparently, after one of Mayawati's statues was unveiled to her for her inspection, she insisted on the statue's handbag being changed because it didn't suit her fashion taste.
I am not kidding.
Some analysts claim she could have eradicated the state's poverty with the hundreds of crores of rupees she has spent on temporarily immortalizing herself.

And seriously, Rakhi's reality show would be more at home on Comedy Central.

Brilliant news report. Easily your best one yet, Mr.Shekar!
