Hindu Students Council
The UT Austin chapter of the Hindu Students Council was established in 1991. Something unique to India and Hinduism is that culture and religion are wholly intertwined, so HSC’s mission is to provide opportunities to learn about both Hindu and Indian heritage and culture, foster awareness of issues in these areas, and provide seva (service) to the community. HSC provides an intellectual forum for students to learn about and celebrate the versatility of this ancient culture.
Throughout the year, HSC hosts general weekly meetings on a wide array of topics, as well as cultural events, such as Navratri, Diwali, Pongal/Sankranti, and Holi. In addition to this, HSC also puts on Hinduism Awareness Week, various religious panels, and the upcoming South Regional Retreat. HSC was recognized as the 2008-2009 Swing Out Award winner for Best Cultural Organization and the 2008-2009 Asian American Excellence Award winner for Most Outstanding Organization.
