With the advent of Spring comes the Festival of Color, Holi. A joyous occasion that celebrates the spirit of life, the renewal of Spring and the victory of Good over Evil, Holi is a popular and widely celebrated festival in the Hindu / Indic tradition. It is played by throwing rang (colored powder) and water at one other. This year’s Holi celebrations will take place on Sunday, 23rd March in South Mall from noon till 4 pm.

The theme that the Hindu Students Council (HSC) is adopting this time is that of “Connecting Cultures Through Color”. Even though Holi has its origins in Hinduism1 it is played and celebrated by people of all religions and every caste, age and gender because everybody likes to be a part of this colorful and joyous festival. To go along with the regular color bashing and water-balloon pounding, the event will feature live music (DJ) that will go along with the proceedings. There will be free games to be played and prizes to be won. Additionally, HSC is organizing an art contest where participants will work on the theme of connecting cultures through color. Prizes include free t-shirts for all participants and gift cards for the three best entries with the 1st place getting a gift card of $100. Free Snacks will be made available at the event as well.

So, don’t hold back and come out to play Holi with HSC by participating with full enthusiasm and enjoy every tradition to the hilt.
