Nino Kar started playing the classical guitar in the 7th Grade. He was trained by John Boeru, a guitar maestro from Romania. By senior year in High School, he had received the 1st place in division A in the State UIL as well as the rare and prestigious “Oustanding Performance” award in 2006. The University of Texas at Austin offered him a full ride to the School of Music in recognition of this award. Nino, however, turned down this offer since music was not in his career goals.

Nino did not focus much on singing till he came to UT. In his freshman year, his group, “The Gulab Jammins” won first place at The ISA Talent Show and he performed his rendition of the song ‘Mitwa’ (from the Hindi movie, ‘Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna’) at The Festival of India.

Ever since, Nino has pursued singing for fun and has played at several events with fantastic singer/performers like Sunjay Devarajan, and Sangita Sarkar. Nino, who considers playing the guitar to be most important aspect of his music, performed solo at ICA’s Jhalak ‘08.
