Concurrence: An Evolving India

By David H Wells 11 June 2009 214 views No Comment

With an extensive background in photography – as an editorial photographer, photo-essayist and photo-educator – David Wells’ work explores dualities in South Asia’s evolving culture, where local tradition and history intersect with globalization. Wells has focused on India, and South Asia in general, for over 13 years through three grants, including two Fulbright Fellowships.

The photographs explore the swirling human milieu that is unique to the local culture but is also being reshaped by globalization. These are further nuanced by the way some of the images emphasize the vibrancy of the colors while others dramatically explore the contrast of light and dark.

(Concurrence: An Evolving India will take place on Tuesday, July 28, 2009, from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. The exhibition will be held at the Calumet’s HP gallery, located on the second floor above the retail store at 22 W. 22nd Street, New York City.)
